Public opinion polls in Egypt: Experiences, problems, and opportunities

Abstract

As a result of expansion and development of societies and the huge increase of the population, and the continuous increase of the number and roles of the social, political, economic, and cultural institutions, an urgent need is growing for study of the priorities of the public.
All this knowledge constitutes an indispensable resource and input in our contemporary world to the decision-making process at various levels.
The scientific discussion about the experiences of public opinion poll centers is an affirmation of the scope of the role that they have become and an important indicator of the increasing reliance on them in the field of decision-making.
Given the recent experience and expertise of public opinion polling centers in developing societies, their growth, continuity, and credibility face many and varied challenges, so it is important to rationalize and develop performance to assure its transparency and greater connection with the priorities of public opinion.
This study is concerned with providing a vision based on the various experiences of public opinion poll centers in Egypt and relies on the researcher’s experiences in this field over more than twenty years.
It develops an analytical scope of outputs of different public opinion polling centers in Egypt, in order to provide an opportunity to make fundamental comparisons that seek to analyze and derive a number of challenges facing the public opinion polling centers.
