In this study, we discuss a comparative dialogue between two great poets, namely the Andalusian poet (Al-Mu'tamid bin Abbad), King of Seville (died: 488 AH), and the great Spanish poet (Federico Garcia Lorca) (d.: 1936 AD). In this comparative dialogue, we treat one of the poetic experiences with an influential psychological impact, which is the experience of self-pity. The comparison is evident here in (self-pity) between Al- Mu’tamid Bin Abbad’s (The Grave of the Stranger) and the two poetic pieces by Lorca (Farewell) and (Requiem for a Dead Soul) in his own self-lament. We have seen that the two poets advocated the victory of life, but Al- Mu’tamid was more subjective; he wanted victory for the life of his grave, which is by extension a victory for his life, or say an extension of it in some way, while Lorca was striving for the victory of life itself. While Al-Mu’tamid often spoke of himself in the third person, Lorca spoke in the first person, and the surprising irony is that, nevertheless, he did not speak of himself directly, to describe it and enumerate its exploits, as in the case of Al-Mu’tamid. Rather, his use of 1st person pronoun was for a temporal purpose first, which is the hour of his death: “If death befalls me / When death comes to me,” then to his commandment to specify the things to be buried with him.
