Abstract

The Sunnah is the second source of religion after the Qur’an, although it is commonly said that it is the second source of legislation only. The truth is that it is not only the second source of legislation, but also of belief, morals, behavior and taste as well. This is because the Messenger did not deal in his hadiths with matters of legislation alone, but rather he called with them to decent morals, correct behavior, good taste, sound belief, and so on, as we all know. The Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Verily, I have been given the Book and the like of it with it.” The parable of the book is the noble Sunnah. This is a natural matter, for it is not reasonable for the Messenger to be a mere bearer of the Revelation who does nothing other than conveying it to humans, no matter how incapable of those people comprehending the Qur’an, and no matter how perplexed they are in front of the text, not knowing how to apply it or how to put down the incident in front of them on the general principles it contains, or They found themselves in a difficult situation because the Qur'an did not address this or that detail. It is natural for the Messenger to speak in these and similar cases. And the words of the Messenger in the religion must be true as long as the Qur’an was not revealed contrary to it
