Abstract

Colloquial language has enjoyed, like written language, due importance in contemporary linguistic forums. The study of said language is a difficult and complicated task, because it involves many phenomena related to the aspects, mechanism, nature and characteristics of the language.
In this work, we are going to focus our attention on the different definitions of sociolinguistics and the difference between this linguistic branch and the sociology of language, exposing the close relationship between language and society, and we will also present a definition for language, the speech and language. Likewise, we talk about the reasons that originate the formation of the linguistic registers (the formal and the informative) of the language. Finally, we shed light on the various definitions elaborated by some linguistics and that revolve around similar concepts until reaching the colloquial language, presenting its different general characteristics, then we are going to deal in detail with its phonological, morphological, syntactic, lexical, semantic and pragmatic
