Abstract

Abu al-Qasim al-Iraqi, was an alchemist/ a chemist who lived in the thirteenth century AD, followed the Jabirian path in chemistry, which is based on the idea of making elixir and converting cheap metals into precious metals. However, he was also known for his interest in the experimental and practical chemistry. The later scholars defined him as a chemist with his book “Acquired concerning the Cultivation of Gold.” Which was investigated and studied by some Western researchers, and was very popular with chemists in Europe in the Medieval Ages and the beginnings of the scientific renaissance,This book has been translated into Latin in many translations, and entire chapters have been quoted from it in the books of scholars of the scientific renaissance in Europe. However, Al-Iraqi has another book in chemistry that is no less important than the book Al-Moktasab, which is his book explaining “Diwan Shudhur aldhab” by Ali bin Musa Al-Ansari in Chemistry. Perhaps he did not gain the same fame and attention, but in this research we try to highlight the biography of Al-Iraqi Al-Simawi and his works, especially his book “Explanation of the Diwan of Shudhur al- dhahab”, which is a group of poems collecting the science of chemistry, its poems are arranged in alphabetical order. It was written by the poet of the sages and the sage of poets Ibn Arfa’ Ras Ali bin Musa al-Ansari al-Andalusi, who died in the year 593 AH / 1197 AD.
