Abstract

This research tackles the image of the “antagonist” in the Chinese novel "The Mobile Phone" by the Chinese writer, Liu Jin Yun, and the Arabic novel "In Every Week There is a Friday" by the Egyptian writer Ibrahim Abdel-Maguid. The research outlines the portrait of the antagonist, which is different from the accustomed one. He is not positive with values and principles. He is not brave and does not have the will to sacrifice himself. He, moreover, does not possess any noble qualities either. He is a sly and a false antagonist. He has the ability to manipulate other characters around him. He negatively affects everyone around him by his behavior and actions. The framework of this research comprises an analysis and a comparison of the two novels; "The Mobile Phone" and "In Every Week There is a Friday" in order to demonstrate and shed light on the images of the two protagonists in the two literary works and to show how the writers of the two plays managed to depict them.
