Persuasive techniques in Putin’s speech declaring war against Ukraine
Our Language is affecting the political communication and has powerful influence over people’s behavior and opinion. Politicians use persuasive language to convince others to agree with their facts, share their values, accept their argument and conclusions, and adopt their way of thinking. There are many different ways to persuade people.
The purpose of this research is to identify the role of persuasion in Putin’s speech declaring war against Ukraine. This political speech of the Russian President Wladimir Putin on 24 February 2022 is the subject of this research.
The research shows that Wladimir Putin uses many persuasive ways in his speech which are effective language techniques to convince his audience of his point of view and to accept the war in order to solve problems with Ukraine and to protect Russia's security and freedom.
