Abstract

This research is based on (criticizing the criticism) by collecting the dispersed critical writings of the great critic, Professor Dr. Muhammad Abd al-Muttalib, focusing on a rhetorical and stylistic phenomenon of a particular poet, which is based on tracing the process of critical progress and its escalation in dealing with poetic discourse. This reveals Abd al-Muttalib’s hidden gifts on the one hand, and his critical creativity parallel to poetic creativity on the other hand.

The study focuses on the phenomenon of paradox inherent in poetry from the beginning, through successive eras and different stages, which in its simplest definition means that the creator says one thing while he means something else that appears to be contradictory to the uttered words. It is diverse in terms of verbal, situational, pictorial, and dramatic paradox...

It is a phenomenon that enriches the recipient’s awareness of one of the most valuable and richest sources in Arabic culture, namely (Arabic rhetoric), from which every critic of literary discourse inhales.

As for the selected poet, he is Muhammad Ibrahim Abu Sunna, with whose creativity our critic has mostly been passionate.

The phenomenon of paradox is one of the prominent phenomena in Abu Sunnah’s creativity; the thing that has absorbed a variety of critics to explore because of the gifts it uncovers in deciphering the desired meaning.
