The purpose of this paper is to analyze the presence of magical realism in Gabriel García Márquez's novel Of Love and Other Demons. the main objective of the thesis is to identify the unique elements of this genre, where reality and magic coexist. Throughout this study, the thesis also sought to locate, analyze, and evaluate the key instances of magical realism found in the work. By understanding the characteristics of this literary genre, the researcher has been able to delve into the various realities portrayed in the novel. The findings reveal that the novel incorporates American and African myths and superstitions, which contribute to the fantastical elements, often conflicting with Catholic beliefs. However, what adds complexity is the intertwining of Catholic and African beliefs, resulting in a fusion of cultures that sheds light on the deeper reality of colonial Latin America. This society was marked by the suffering of the Amerindians and the undeniable presence of slavery. All of these factors contribute to the blending of the real world with the fantastic, aligning with the concept of magical realism.
