Digital media has witnessed remarkable development in the past few years in the field of expanding the scope of circulation of news and information, as it has become a field for exchanging news and information between Internet users, without there being often the possibility of verifying the accuracy and authenticity of that news and information. According to a Reuters report for the year 2019, The world population is 7.676 billion people, including 4.388 billion Internet users and 3.484 billion social media users.
This research paper aims to monitor “the trends in social media and digital platforms research internationally and locally, and to identify their paths of interest at the level of different research schools and compare them, by analyzing the areas of interest of dozens of reference research and second-level analysis studies during the last five years at the local and international levels.” A review of the available research dealing with social media and digital platforms revealed that there are six basic paths on which the topics of these studies were based.
