Utilizing Interactive Video Journalism on Newspaper Websites: "An Applied Study on Washington Post and Youm7"

Abstract

The study aims to monitor the role of interactive video for news websites, a study of the two websites of Youm7 and The Washington Post, revealing the most prominent topics that the study focused on, monitoring the active forces and methods of persuasion on which the websites relied, mechanisms for employing interactive in websites, and the most prominent forms of journalism that rely on video, The most prominent topics that are focused on by the signatories under study.
Study Approach: This study belongs to the descriptive studies approach, which relied on the survey method, and in this context, the researcher relied on the content analysis form.
Study tool & sample: The researcher relied on the content analysis and selection form, choosing the sample of (two) electronic newspaper sites:  (Toum7 - and The Washington Post) to be a sample subject to analysis in this study. The researcher analyzed (95) videos, and an industrial week was made for all that was published on the websites of the study sample newspapers during the analysis period. The sample result came as follows: (73) videos for Youm7 website, (22) videos for the Washington Post, and the study was conducted for four months from February 2022 to May 2022 .
 
The most important results of the study:

The increase in the number of videos posted on the Youm7 website compared to the Washington Post, which adds to the superiority of Youm7 over the Washington Post in publishing and direct press coverage of most events.
The Washington Post outperformed Youm7 in live broadcasting and allowing the live broadcast feature of the site’s platform, but the two newspapers benefited from the live broadcast feature, which sometimes gives superiority over satellite news channels.
The Washington Post surpassed the seventh day in using multimedia and making content available in different languages, so that the audience can participate in different languages, but the two platforms generally provide the possibility of translation, which allows the content provided to a larger number of audiences.
The study concluded that newspaper websites began to excel in using the most advanced visual effects, such as motion graphics and videographics.
The platforms excel in continuous updating, and interaction with the audience provides the possibility of information on demand, which gives interaction the importance of adding content provided by the platforms that outperforms satellite channels.

 
The most important proposals of the study:

Expanding the use of interactive video on the site of the seventh day, because of the ability to attract and simulate the audience.
Working to create sufficient awareness among journalists of the importance of interactivity, clarifying its forms and functions, and providing it as provided by the websites of foreign newspapers.

Interest in future studies that focus on addressing video art as a new independent form in modern media
