Abstract

This study mainly focuses on Ibn Zaydun's masterpiece "Al Nuniyya" as the Ironic Text. The choice of this particular text is justified as being the best example of the complete irony which is present in all its verses and images, using all various types of irony. This text can be said to be a summary of the different aspects of the paradox. Paradox is an artistic style related to poetic expression, through which the creative artist expresses two opposing ideas simultaneously, in the sense that studying paradox is mainly studying poetics which is concerned with the language as a means of producing denotation and achieving the literariness of the text. Hence, the study has used a linguistic approach driven from modernism in studying paradox in Ibn Zaydoun’s Nuniyya.

When the reader comes to follow the various studies and research tackling the literary outcome of Ibn Zaydun, he is to find ample critical reservoir. Nevertheless, there is not enough work done related to his use of paradox which is actually to be held as the cornerstone of his work. In addition, the choice of Ibn Zaydun in particular has been made due to the scarcity of the studies related to the internal phenomena of the Andalusian literature.
