This research paper sheds light on a negative aspect of the medical profession today and the associated auxiliary professions. It focuses on the deterioration of the behavioral, ethical, and professional aspects of some members of this noble profession, and their exploitation of the privileges granted by Sharia law and society to commit forbidden acts and violate sanctities.
It also highlights the need for this behavior to be corrected and reformed, and for building the medical character on solid ethical and professional foundations. These foundations must be nurtured by everyone with the tools for reform, through continuous guidance at home, school, mosque, university, professional associations, and the media, among other platforms.
It was necessary to remind of the recent past when the sun of modern medical renaissance shone upon Egypt through the Mohamed Ali School of Medicine. In less than two decades, the edifice of medical science, practice, and literature was completed, including the translation of the most important European contributions in the field. The construction and care of this edifice were led by responsible officials, teachers, and students, most of whom were Egyptians armed with faith in God, love for the homeland, reverence for knowledge, respect for scholars, selflessness, and determination to uplift the nation from its setbacks. Everyone involved in this iconic endeavor spared no effort, seeking the pleasure of God and the swift pursuit of the modern European Renaissance.
