Children's Literature and Comparative Literature Between (Kalila and Dimna) and (El Conde Lucanor)

Abstract

This research aims to examine the tales of (Kalila and Dimna) that influenced El conde Lucanor, to observe the points of similarities and differences between them on the one hand, and to spot the mechanisms of critical analysis on the bridge of convergence between children's literature and comparative literature. The study deals with the comparative analysis of the three tales from Kalila and Dimna whose influence appear strongly in El conde Lucanor, which are arranged in the order of their representation in the book ,(Kalila and Dimna),  as follows:
1- “The Lion and the Bull”, which appeared in the twenty-second tale of El conde Lucanor: entitled “What Happened to the Lion and the Bull”.
2- “The Owl and the Crows”, which had its echo in the nineteenth tale entitled “What Happened to the Crows and the Owl”.
3- “The Hermit and the Weasel”, whose influence was clearly evident in the seventh tale entitled “What Happened to Doña Trujana”.
The approach adopted is to mention the Arabic tale in (Kalila and Dimna) in a summary, following it with the original Spanish text of the similar tale from Conde Lucanor, then adding the Arabic translation followed by the comparative analysis of the two tales, in three sections according to each tale. Thus, this study presents a careful and scrutinizing look at the tales of the two works as a good example of children's literature and symbolic literature on the one hand, and comparative literature on the other hand in the Arabic and foreign heritages.
