Abstract

This study aims to explore the artistic formulation mechanisms of the character "Safaa" and the features of her formation in children's literature, using the model of "The Weightlifter" by the author Rania Hussein Amin. The study seeks to reveal the dimensions of the character in terms of both form and content, through an analytical look at her traits and functions within the narrative text. It also examines the semantic values embedded in her aesthetic formulation and how this image is influenced by the modern age. The study investigates the potential impact of the other characters within the work on the artistic dimensions and features of the character. It raises questions about the specificity of this literature, particularly regarding the appropriateness of the narrative formulation for the targeted children’s age group in late childhood. The study utilizes the methodological application of Greimas’s actantial model, which benefits from Vladimir Propp’s study of fairy-tale characters and his identification of thirty-one functions summarizing the reflection of narrative characters in folktales. The study also draws from text interpretation theories and reception studies, focusing on the reader’s response to the text and the implications of that response.
