The quoting is a well-known phenomenon that, more than anything else, has to do with the recycling of a re-playing a melody or part of it, into another melody. Composers use this practice to give new works their style and personality, so as not to establish a direct connection between a lost identity and a black slate is very much in-keeping. One of the best such cases is that of the Rahbani Brothers' "Ya Ana Ya Ana", with an excerpt of the 40th Symphony by Mozart. Similarly, the melody for their song "Kanou Ya Habibi" is based on the Russian song "Polishko Polie" composed by Lev Knipper. In their early career, the Rahbani Brothers also created a series of adapted songs at the request of Sabri Al-Sharif, the music section supervisor at Radio of the East. These include "Marushka," based on a Hungarian tune, and the tango "Min Houna Habna Mar," derived from "Tango La Boheme" by the Argentine Eduardo Bianco. What is truly commendable about the Rahbani Brothers is their transparency in acknowledging the sources of these melodies. This not only enhanced the beauty of their adaptations but also demonstrated their high ethical standards in the art of music. As for the musician Mohammed Abdel Wahab, who served as the head of the Authors' Society for a significant period. This organization plays a crucial role in protecting the rights of musical authors from unauthorized use of their works. In one of his televised interviews available online, Abdel Wahab, renowned for his thoughtful reflections, discussed the nuances of musical inspiration and originality.
